Armyworms

Armyworms have been spotted in Crestlake:

Armyworms are the larval stage of certain moth species, most notably the fall armyworm (Spodoptera frugiperda). They are caterpillars that feed voraciously on grasses and crops such as corn, wheat, and turfgrass. Named for their tendency to move in large “armies” across fields, they can cause severe agricultural damage in a short time by stripping plants of their leaves. Armyworms are usually green, brown, or black with stripes along their bodies, and they thrive in warm, moist conditions. Because they reproduce quickly and migrate over long distances, they can be difficult to control once an infestation begins.
